Question about www.rootsireland

Question about www.rootsireland

The website www.rootsireland has 18 million Irish records online. It is free to search, but they charge to see individual records. Does anyone know if this information is offered elsewhere (or on Ancestry.com) for free? I am looking for Irish birth, death and marriage certificates. Thanks.

Ireland, as I understand, does not have many records available for free. I found a "record" of my grandparents marriage on the site but haven't decided to pay as I have heard that you don't always get a copy of a document but what is on the index. I have the ancestry Deluxe membership and they don't have the record. I even signed up for ancestry.co.uk about 2 years ago and it wasn't there either.
