Surnames: Flannery, Britton
Hi there. I am looking for information on a John Flannery who served in the military in India. He married a Mary Anne Britton in Cananore Madras on Nov 7 1861. Together they had four children Patrick (1863), Julia (1864), John (1868) and Edward (1870). Patrick Flannery is my great great grandfather. I know that in 1881 him, his sister and brothers were sent to England. Patrick lived at Medway Union Workhouse. I am trying to find out where John Flannery and Mary Anne Britton died, what caused their children to go to England, where John and Mary are buried, where John and Mary were born and who their parents were. If anyone has any information, I would be happy to hear from you! I appreciate your assistance!

At a guess, if Patrick ended up in the Workhouse, it meant that the parents had died in India and the children were sent "home" because they were orphans. Perhaps some relatives took some of them but no one had room for Patrick. He would not have been in a Workhouse unless he was destitute. However if you try the India Office Library Family History Section or FIBIS (Families in British India Society) you would probably get some help to a concrete answer.
