I am looking for info re; Caleb Moore b. app.1740 and married to Unity Briley they had a son John Moore who married Nancy O'steen. I believe Caleb's father was also a John Moore who was a revolutionary soldier. I don't know if they came to Pitt Co before or after the Rev War. The time frame they resided in Pitt is very sketchy also. Any help would be appreciated.

Many of the residents of Pitt County moved to what is now Brantley County GA circa 1820's & on. This is true of my own ancestors - Jesse Lewis & Millie Rollins (gs). Brantley County was not formed until 1920 and the county lines were moved a number of times before that. Thus, your anscestors could have appeared on the Census of any one of the these counties - Wayne, Pierce, Charlton, Camden, or possibly Appling. Some of the early settlers of Wayne stopped off for a time in Tattnal County so it might be worth a look. The original County Seat of Wayne County GA was Waynesville. It is now a small community. The County Seat of Brantley County is now at Nahunta which is about 5 miles to the west of Waynesville. Quite a few Moores & a few O'Steens reside in Brantley. If you can link up to a more recent member of this family, I might be able to provide some info from "The Story Of Brantley County" which was published in late 1999. Good luck.

Caleb Moore, b. 1760 Beaufort/Pitt, NC, son of John Moore.
Possibly brother of Moses and Cason. Married Unicy Briley,
daughter of Solomon Briley and Betsy Tyson in 1780. Caleb served in Rev. War. Caleb sold property in Pitt 1798/99 and moved his family to Wayne county, GA. He died ca 1820 in GA.
Unicy Moore had document listing children as heirs of Caleb Moore...for their share in the estate of John Moore of Pitt.
Moses Moore of Pitt was handling the estate. Other information in this file, will mail copy.

Caleb Moore born 1760 in Pitt county is in my direct line also. I am hung up knowing anything after that regarding his parents. although I think it is John Moore Sr. and Caleb had brothers: Thomas, Spencer, John, and Jesse and sister Elizabeth. I do know in the early 1800's they moved indeed to Georgia to Wayne County. If you can email me any information regarding Caleb's parents please please do. We are probably all long lost thrice removed cousins or something. Neat. my email: dcanan4@aol.com
thanks.

Unfortunately I don't have any more than John Moore Sr's name but if I do come up with any more info I will gladly share it with you.I'm afraid I haven't had much time to spend on this line this summer.

Jim, Your message in this series caught my eye. My ancester is Obediah Moore, born in Princess Anne County, VA about 1759. He moved with his stepfather, Samuel Elks to Pitt County, NC prior to the Revolutionary War. He was living in Pitt County, NC when he enlisted in the Revolutionary War. The last of December, 1782 or the first of January, 1783, he married Winnie last name unknown. One of their grandchildren was named Lewis, and there has been some thought that Winnie's last name may have been Lewis. Have you found any info that would support this theory in your reserch. Thank you for your help.

What do you know about Spencer Moore? I have a theory that he is the father or other close relation of my ancestor James Spencer Moore who was born in NC abt 1806 and lived in Pitt County. The 1810 and 1820 Pitt Co. census shows Spencer with a son in the same age range as James Spencer Moore. The 1830 census shows a single Lydia Moore with a male James' age. In 1850, James has an older woman named Lydia Moore living with him and his family. I have a hunch Spencer and Lydia are his parents, but I don't know that or even if they were ever married.
