I don't know if the lasr message went through or not. I just went off. but what I said was that I think that I am related , way back, to terry Mcgovern. McGovern was my grandmothers maiden name. She told us about a prize fighter named Terry out East. Her name was Anne . I have not done much about looking up relatives but I had to write and say this.

There is an article that states his name as Joseph Terry McGovern and his birthday was Mar 9, 1880 and the 1880 census was taken as of Jun 1, 1880. This is the only Joseph that fits the time frame of 3 months old at the time of the census. I hope this helps you. This is not part of my McGovern family.

Hey, my name is Dalton McGovern, 17 years old and Terry McGovern is my great great grandfather. I'm also a boxer and I'm the youngest new England champion in history, I won it when I was 15. My grandfathers name is Fredrick McGovern, and my fathers name is Edward McGovern who was also an amateur boxer.

Hi Dalton, I'm hoping you might be able to help me with my research... I'm researching my family tree and much to my surprise, my family did not immigrate directly to NYC, but began their lives in the US in the New England states. I am trying to find out if there is a connection between the family of "Terrible Terry" and my McGoverns. I have Thomas McGovern, said to be from Ireland, married to Bridget Marie Foley, whose children were Terrence, Mary Ellen and Catherine McGovern. They lived in Manhasset, NY. They were related to Sullivans, and possibly O'Sheas, Regans and Fitzgeralds. I have to see if I have Thomas McGovern's info, but he would be my great grandfather, and so I'm thinking he was born in the 1870s or 1880s. My Terence McGovern's descendents tell me that it was family tradition to alternate first-born male names between Thomas and Terence, and many of the Terence's we had used the nickname Lawrence. I'm thinking cousins, not necessarily direct line. Let me know if you have a family tree that might help me sort this out. Your Terence's hospitalizations and death match a family story that I haven't otherwise been able to find in the documents.
Thanks!
Colleen
