William Perry MANLY was born 15 Jan 1844, Vermillion Co. IN, d. 8 Jan 1921, San Jose, CA. I have a picture of him (I think) with his 3rd wife, Luella Marie (NOBLE) PETERSON, who he married Sep 1897, Fresno Co. CA. I want to contact someone researching the family who would like to see this picture (by email) and confirm the identification. My husband descends from Luella and her 1st husband, Reuben Henry PETERSON.

William Perry Manly would be a 1st cousin to my g-grandfather Melvin Manly. William Perry's father was Garlington Manly, mother Rachel Carmack. Garlington was brother (or at least half-brother, we're not sure on that one yet) to William Manly. Their parents were William Manly (Sr) and Elizabeth Nickels (Garlington may have had a mother named Sarah who died between SC and IN - we're not sure on this one). Garlington is listed on census records and in probate records as a sibling.
Would love to have an e-version of the picture, although I would have no way of confirming any information.
I have all three marriages in my files, though no exact marriage dates.

William Perry Manly was my great grandfather, his son Claude Kincaid Manly was my grandfather, my father was Archibald Chester Manly, I would like to hear from you and I have information to share. I can fill in some gaps about his decendents. I will have to look but I have a picture of Garlington, William also and Claude and of course Archibald.

Cool! Wouldn't happen to have a picture of Garlington's brother William, would you? That's my ancestor.

Are any of the male descendents taking part in the DNA study?

Paul

Sorry it has taken me so long to answer have a new computer and lost all of my favorites just stumbled onto this and went wow! Of course the pictures I am looking for have disappeared but they are in my house somewhere. When you do a house remodel things get moved and misplaced. I can tell you from what I remember all of the Manlys I know of were tall. And looking at William Garlingtons picture he has a droupy eye right side that has endured down to even me, As to the dna no the only Manly men in my family other than those who do not carry the name had died before this was possible.

I would love to see the picture as I think I have one too. William was in that day and age a handsome man white hair and mustache, any information you have would be great.

If you have a picture of Garlington's FATHER, that would also be my ancestor. Any chance you can get ahold of it, let me know. Scanned jpeg for e-mail or snail mail - doesn't matter.
Thanks!
Paul

Kay ...
William Perry Manly (1844-1921) ... his parents are Garlington [1814-1890] & Rachel (Carmack) Manly and my GGrandfather was Garlington's brother [Edmund - 1818 to 1899] . We have had contact with a couple of cousins who descend from this line (Garlington), but I do not have contact with them at this time [they have moved and not left me a forwarding address]. Another cousin, Paul Manly, descends from a third brother, [William, Jr - 1822-1888]. I do have contact with Paul and his family.
All of this family descends from William (Sr) [1790-1842] and Elizabeth Nickels of Newport [Vermillion] IN.
Let me know if you need further. Thanks
Eddie Manley
