Hello everyone,
My great grandfather James Ainscow sailed to the America on Mar 18, 1903. The ship manifest states that he was married when he came to this country and going to Sharp St, Conshohocken, PA. I do not know who the first wife is or whether he abandoned his first family in England. His place of birth is listed as Manchester, Lancashire, Eng. He married before 1906 to Laura Thawley in Mongomery Co., PA. In 1910, Laura's father, Alfred Thawley had become guardian to my grandfather, Richard Alfred Ainscoe (another spelling) who was 4 years old at the time according to the federal census. Putting this all together that would most likely mean my great grandfathers name might be Richard Ainscow or Ainscough (The combination of my grandfathers name is comprised of both parents name?? - Longshot)
I recently found his birth and death records but no listing for parents. He died in Clifton, Passaic, New Jersey on July 1968. That listing had his name as James Ainscough. The ships manifest also states more but cannot read it as it is in a different handwriting........then the writing is clearer and says, Manitoba, Canada. Not sure if that was his destination originally.
About his second wife Laura. She died in 1958 in Pennsylvania just a year before I was born. My dad tells me they had separated before 1957 as he never met my grandfather and he had been courting my mother since that time; Francis, my great grandfathers youngest went to go looking for him in Florida but was killed enroute by a car accident. She was almost the same age as my mother. Laura, before her death was living with another man.
James other children were William S. Ainscoe who died 1966 in Sedgwick, KS; Mary; Edith; Robert; James; Ethel (Lottie); Elizabeth "Libby" Racic (married Nick); and Francis.
If any of this sounds familiar, please write to me as I need to fill in the blanks.
