Hi - I am looking for info on a man who called himself Francis J. Smith here in the US in 1777 to fight in the Revolutionary War. He married Elizabeth Brodhead and had several children. According to one source he came from Brussels and was named Josephus Jacobus De Aerts and was the son eldest son of the Lord of Zimmercile and Opdorf. He left under strange cirmstances and supposedly met up with Benjamin Franklin before coming to the US. Any corroborating info would be wonderful!!!!
