I am new to the list and have been trying to locate information on my Norwegian heritage. I have the following information that was sent to me by my aunt.

My grandmother, Ingaborg Peterson, was born October 18, 1890 in Hul'bucken Norway. Her parents were Elling Pettersen and Olava Olsdatter. The had 6 children. In 1900 they lived at the cotter's farm Sola belonging to the farm Somdalen in the Adalen parish. Originally Adalen was a part of the Norderhov parish, but in 1857 it was made a separate parish.

On April 2, 1903 they left from Kristiana on the steamer "Hekla". Included on this journey was my grandmother, and her brothers Einar, Johan and Olaf. The oldest brother Ole, was not with them. They settled in the New Auburn, Wisconsin area (Rusk County). I found through Solem & Swiggum Ship Index that they arrived in New York on April 20, 1903. I would appreciate if you could direct me to where I could locate birth records, census records or passenger lists for the information that I do have.

Elling Petersen was born November 6, 1831 in Cotter's farm Gunbjorgrudeie. He married Randi Ellefsdatter February 5, 1860, daughter of Ellef Syversen and Randi Knutsdatter. Elling Pettersen was born December 26, 1861 in Norderhov, Norway. He married Olava Olsdatter May 13, 1884 in Adalen, Norway, daughter of Olea Jonsdatter.
