William - My Arthur McCracken was born around 1803 in PA, according to census records.
He moved to Mississippi where he married Mary Ann Brown Feb 22, 1836 in Madison County.
After the War he moved to Texas and died in Houston on April 1, 1885 (I have the death record).
There were 4 children - 2 girls who died as children in Mississippi, and 2 sons both of who moved to Houston.
The sons were George Washington McCracken (1841-1881) and John Marshall McCracken (1848-1914.
Does this look like a fit with your group?

Carmen,
I don't know if you and my husband are from the same McCrackens but there are a couple of Alexanders in his family.
1.Alexander McCracken, b. 3-4-1782; d. 10-4-1859; m. Lavinah, b. 11-12-1799; d. 5-9-1862.Their children were:
John,Joseph, Alexander, this Alexander was born 1841 and Married Ellen Phillips, Sara,Hannah,Abraham, and another that I couldn't make out his name.
The next Alexander was a son of David and Mary McCracken but I have to see if I can find out when he was born.I think I have it but things are mixed up right now.Let me know if this helps you.

Just found your post. My grandmother, Katherine McDowell Schuler's father was George M. McDowell who married Mary Elizabeth McCracken. I was told her father was Josua McCracken.

Do your records reflect the name of Mary Elizabeth as a daughter? Would like to share information with you.

I am descended from 2 McCrackens. John married Margaret Patton, the dtr. of Mary McCracken, granddaughter of Anthony McCracken, who is believed to have immigrated from Ireland. Mary McCracken was born ca. 1734 in Hamiltonbann, York Co., Pa. She had a brother James and sisters Rebecca and Elizabeth. I would love any information on this McCracken line or any other for that matter. I am the 8th generation down, including Anthony. My email is della_d@hipster.net. Thanx, Della

Carmen,
We are also looking for McCracken info. Alexander, who was born in Ireland around 1835 and was married to Mary Nevens, (spelling may be off,) who was born in Scotland. They would have been married around 1850's Their son's were Hugh N., born 2-9-1857, and Alex, (date of birth not known).
Alexander may have been a preacher in Covington, Pa. Have you found any info on this side of the family?

I am looking for the parents of my GGGrandmother Catherine McCracken, born about 1807. She married James Twigg from Oldtown MD. She grew up in Hampshire Co. VA (now WVa), just across the Potomac River from Oldtown. I know a William McCracken had a large farm there and a large family of mostly boys named William Jr., Ovid, Cyrus, Isaac, Virgil, and Seneca. Some of them moved to KY and IL. I'd like to know more about the 7 brothers and when they came to America. I've always thought William came from PA. The three states are very close together in this area.

Your Arthur has the same dates as what is written in the McCracken Family Bible. Arthur was one of fourteen children born to Alexander and Margaret (Marshall) McCracken. There is a group of us putting together a website which includes correspondence between Alexander and Margaret's children in the 1800's regarding an estate in Ireland of Margaret's father, Henry Marshall. Please look at www.mccracken-marshall.buriedsecrets.com .
