I have a question about the given names shown here: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=DESC&...
they are my ancestors, and as long as I've known, my family on my dad's side has always been Christian.
When I started researching our ancestors, though, I kept coming up with these seemingly out of place names! I've shown someone else this webpage, and they said that the names were probably just Biblical, but I'm not completely sold on that idea yet. Was it common for English and early Americans to give their children names with Hebrew origins?
The thing that really gets me is how inconsistent the names are. One generation, it's Abigails left and right, and the next the names are just so...strange! I made a long list of all of the names, but you can just skim through them. Most of their surnames are Eastman, although a few of them married into the family. I've searched for some of them on google, but haven't gotten a single result.
The names all clump together when I paste them here, so I'll add them in a different post. :)
