Hello again Debbie,
Robert Swallow I b. abt. 1790, Yorkshire, England - migrated to Prince Edward Island abt. 1812, is my gr. great grandfather.
He married and had six children all born Lot 56 PEI.
His daughter, Marie married my great grandfather, George Chaffey.
Marie Swallow's brother was John "Black John" Swallow". I
guess this makes him a gr. granduncle.
Marie Chaffey (nee Swallow) and George Chaffey had one daughter and five sons; one of which was my grandfather,
Benjamin Chaffey b. March 4, 1858, Lot 56 Grand River Wharf, Kings County, Prince Edward Island.
After Marie's death in 1865, George Chaffey remarried in 1967.
In 1873 George, his second wife and four of his children with Marie and two that he had with #2 left PEI and came to California USA. They settled in Arcata, Humboldt County.
My grandfather Benjamin Chaffey married Mary Glasson b. 1871 in Penzance, Cornwall, England. Mary and her parents came to San Francisco, California in 1871( Mary was only 4 months old.) Mary's mother died in S.F. in 1875. George moved to Arcata in 1878.
Mary Chaffey (nee Glasson) and Benjamin Chaffey had nine (9) children, one of which was my mother, Amy Chaffey.
I am trying to track down at least the parents of Robert Swallow I in England since I have hit a brick wall in learning anything definite on my gr. great grandfather, Joseph Chaffey born abt 1795 in Devon or Dorset, England.
Nor, have I been able to learn where in the name of God my gr. grandmother, Elizabeth (nee Permewan) Glasson's remains ended up in the horrible closeure of all the cemeteries in S. F. and the transfer of remains to an adjoining county. That is another chapter.
That is my connection to John "Black John" Swallow.
Be Safe, Helen
