Descendants of Christian Snowman

Generation No. 1

1. CHRISTIAN1 SNOWMAN was born Abt. 1690 in London, England, and died 1738 in Arrowsic Island, Sagadahoc Co., Maine.. He married MARY COOPER December 12, 1712 in Boston, Mass.. She was born November 10, 1693 in Rowley, Essex, Mass, and died Aft. November 1749 in (probably) Georgetown, York Co., Maine.

Notes for CHRISTIAN SNOWMAN:
Christian arrived from London on the "Peter and Phillip" in 1712; he and Mary Cooper married in 25 Dec. 1712 at Boston, Mass. before the Rev. Benjamin Colman, a Presbyterian. It is not certain that their son John is our ID501-there were two John Snowmans. Christian was at Arrowsic, Maine by 1726. His son John was born at Boston November 20, 1713 per "Our Willey Heritage," Doris K. Moore Carnahan (Seattle, WA, 1987),p.71. From Perley Leighton via Internet, 4/97: Christian Snowman was born in England; married at Boston 25 Dec. 1712 Mary Cooper, born about 1689 (60 in 1749) (Was she of Newbury?) He arrived at Boston from London June 17, 1712 on the "Peter and Phillip". With Robert Cummings he owned land at Arrowsic in 1725 (York Deeds 2:50). He was a trader on Arrowsic Island in 1726, acting as agent for George Bethune (York Deeds 12:1).

From Perley Leighton via Internet, 4/97:
"Christian Snowman was born in England; married at Boston 25 Dec. 1712 Mary Cooper, born about 1689 (60 in 1749) (Was she of Newbury?).
"He arrived at Boston from London 17 June 1712 on the Peter and Philip. With Robert Cummings he owned land at Arrowsic in 1725 (York Deeds 2:50). He was a trader on Arrowsic Island in 1726, acting as agent for George Bethune (York Deeds 12:1).
Christian Snowman held a lease to Verrin's Farm on the Kennebec in 1731 (York Deeds 15:158). A tailor of Augusta (the early name for Phippsburg), York Co., he and his wife Mary on 26 Mar. 1734 quit to James McFarling of Brunswick their rights to an
18-acre tract at "Georgetown," the 17th household together with upland and marsh (York Deeds 21:82). The area called Georgetown then included what is now Bath, Woolwich, Arrowsic, Phippsburg, and Georgetown
"His widow apparently married Thomas Webber. In 1749, aged 60, Mary Webber of Boston deposed that she and Thomas Webber had ten years before had a 300-acre farm on the Kennebec, which she delived to the heirs of Isaac Parker, grandson of John Parker
(GDMNH 730). John Snowman of Boston, aged 21 (could this mean of legal age, 21 or over?), deposed that he had lived on that farm with his father-in-law (stepfather) Thomas Webber and his mother Mary Webber.
"Webber may have been a son of Samuel and Deborah (Littlefield) Webber, born about 1684 according to Charles E. Banks (GDMNH 730).

"As to the Christian Snowman you list, he was born about 1690 in England and arrived in Boston, MA on the ship "Peter and Paul" 17 June 1712 . He married Mary Cooper 25 Dec 1712 at Boston. They moved to Arrowsic ME by 1726. He died between 1739 and
1749. Mary Cooper had married Thomas Webber prior to 1749.
"The only child listed to the couple in Boston is John Snowman born 20 Nov 1713. This is 15 years before My John Snowman was born. There is also a note in the Boston vital records - child of Christian Snowman died 8 Aug 1714. No name is given in
the record but it is almost certainly John Snowman and she didn't have time to have another baby-I don't think. My John Snowman may be a son of Christian but there is a large gap between 1714 and 1728 with no data."

"Regarding the Snowman data: I am the one who provided the data to Perley Leighton some years ago when I was living in Maine. The direct Snowman data on John and Sarah Snowman and the others is from the family Bible that is held by the Fogg family
in Maine. The Bible was Sarah & her husband's so it was old but should be accurate. When I have had a chance to check records, they have matched the Bible."
