Juliana,
Yes, I have some more information on the James Madison Winston born in 1840. I don't know if the other reply by Brent Winston was the info you were looking for. You also asked about the Marcellus Calvin born 1818.
According to the info I've compiled (after peering through several library books in Virginia, and copying my grandmother's family tree), Marcellus Calvin is son to George Winston born 1797. James Madison Winston is my Great Grandfather.
James Madison Winston was the fifth generation that was born and lived on the old Winston plantation in Franklin County, NC. Three generations have lived there since (in 1960). The original tract has been divided, sub-divided, and a large part of it sold, but in 1960 a part was still owned by a Winston. The plantation was originally about 1500 acres and was a land grant. The old burying ground is still there. For generations both family and slaves were buried there on the same hill but in separate portions. James Madison Winston was buried there and also his mother and father. It is still kept up, but no longer used as a burying ground.
James Madison Winston was the second child of a family of ten. He was married twice. The first time to Elizabeth Wilson, who was the widow of his buddy in the civil war. She had a son about 1 year old at the time. Then he was married to Ida Tabitha Ezell, Feb. 8th, 1882.
