Hi, Keith-
I am sorry that your messsage was filtered from my email at first, and has only now come to my attetention. I see that Beverly
Coles has also written. To answer your query: John
Cutts was born in Lincolnshire,
England. He emigrated to
Ohio and then on to
Iowa. After his wife's death in
Iowa, he returned to
Ohio, where he remarried a local woman. I have an interesting letter he wrote from
Ohio in 1834 to his
English landlord complaining of having been unjustly forced to leave the parish. I believe I sent Beverly a copy which she can share with you. If not I will send one if you like, and if you have the patience to wait until we complete a move. Presently my materials are all packed up, apart from an old back-up FTM file. I probably won't have full access until later in the fall of this year.
Anyhow: John
Cutts, b. April 7, 1822. Doddington, Lincolnshire, m. Mary
Roe December 1, 1850 in
Buchanan,
Berrien Co. Michigan. John d. March 28, 1905, Hambden
Ohio. His daughter Rebecca Jane (Jennie) was my gggrandmother. Mary
Roe has an interesting and well-documented lineage too, with descent from Gov. John Winthrop's sister, who was the subject of a popular novel by Anya
Seton. Hope this helps. (BTW, Rebecca had a sister
Harriet, b. 1855). I would appreciate any information you may have on this family, especially Rebecca's Loban relations...
