Can anybody help me? I am trying to find information on a girl's orphanage in New Orleans described as "St. Mary's Female Orphan Asylum," or maybe "New Orleans Girls Orphan Asylum." My great-grandmother,Emma Cummings, was placed in this asylum in 1861.
I would like to know where in New Orleans (street address) it was located, how long it was in existence, and what happened to it. I suspect it changed names and is known in the records by another name, but I don't know.
I am at a complete dead-end. Can anybody help?
