The story was that my grandmother (Lenore Gertrude Tobin, named for the Poe poem "The Raven") was a single school teacher (I have a photo of her with her class). Her local beau had "lost his prospects" as she put it. She went to Pike's Peak on vacation, and there met Edward James McCurdy, on vacation from New Orleans.
I adored my grandmother, by the way. She and my grandfather lived with us. I have a picture of the farm in Gilberts and of the church where my dad was baptized. Lenore went back home to have her babies. As each of her four grandchildren finished 8th grade, she took them to Illinois on her summer trips. I came on my trip in 1955.
