Hello there
Just read your message. It is possible that your gggrandfather was George (William?) Garley who married Mary Ann Collins on 13 April 1884 at St Mary le Strand,in London. I have their marriage certificate and two of their children's birth certificates. I am researching the London Garleys but I believe your line of Garleys come from Hertfordshire. Per Familysearch and various other places searched, they had about 12 children, all born in the East End of London, most of whom died young. However from the National Archives of Canada site I found a William James, B. Hackney, London, 1897, who emigrated to Canada in 1908 with workhouse children from Dr Barnados who was going to Canada to live with his sister Ellen Louise as both parents had died. If you have a look on the Familysearch site and FreeBMD sites you should be able to find quite a lot of information.
Regards
Cathy (Penzance)
