It was Lord Dunmore's war I believe, we had a great Indian uprising here that nullified previous treaties and the land that was previously promised as "open for hunting" was portioned out in 200 and 350 acre parcels to the officers and militiamen who fought Chief Cornstalk at Point Pleasant. Most of the lands already were occupied, but were officially deeded in this process. Some of the land was homestead, and some was later sold. The main surveyors you see in the deed books (books one, two and three for Greenbrier county) are William H. Cavendish and James McCoy.
