I think Judith Coogan, my great grandmother, may have been a sister of your James Coogan because of the dates. She may have been born about 1834. Married John Patterson and had children: Mary, James, Honora, Robert, Michael and John. Honora, my grandmother, was born 1861. Judith's 1st, James, was b 1857. I was told he settled in Cork as a policeman. Would like to find his decendants for more information and possibly old family pictures. It would be good if you could find the names of your James' brothers and sisters.
I just came back from Ireland. Visited St Brendan's Church in Muckalee, Co. Kil and the adjacent grave yard. There were several headstones for Coogans. Uskerty was a place I was told many Coogans were from. Don't remember exactly the places mentioned on the headstones, but I think many were Uskerty. Wish I'd heard from you before I went. I would have taken pictures of the Coogans of Uskerty headstones. Betty
