I have found that Mathias Becvar's parents were Jan Becvar b. abt. 1800 Pisek, Plzen, CZ and Magdelena Gabriel b. abt. 1805 Smrovice, Plzen, CZ --- according to IGI. Interestingly, I also found a Veronika Gabriel b. abt. 1805 Smrkovice, Pisek, CX (twin to Magedelena???) married a Vaclav Becvar---Now following Jan and Magdelena's line--here is what I have so far found--their children: 1. Anthony b. abt. 1825 of Pisek, Plzen, CZ, died in Wisconsin 1870...assume he is the Anthony that came over in about 1854 ... his wife is Adeline Barby/Brothert) 2. Matej Becvar b abt. 1826 Pisek, Plzen, CZ (assume that he is our ancestor...give or take a few years depending on what census or other record you use) married Katerina Weirzibauer/Weirribauer (this fits in with Mat and Katerina on the census records) 3. Jan Becvar b. abt. 1828 Pisek, Plzen, CZ married Terezie Svoboda abt. 1851 Pisek, Plzen, CZ (This family is out in the western states and Minnesota)4. Tomas Becvar abt. 1830 of Pisek, Plzen,CZ married Barbora Kykora abt. 1851 Pisek, Plzen, CZ 5. Katerina Becvar b. abt. 1836 Pisek, Plzen, CZ.
In an interview that I did in the 1970's with a Mr. Swatek, he told me that the Becvar's were all related but never claimed it because of a family dispute, and illness. He said that Mat was dark colored and had long fingers...he hid horses in a cave and sold them later.... or (Maybe it was the TB issue????.) Martha Becwar Smerthurst told Mrs. Daniel Becwar, Sr. that they were all related. In letters from Anna Becwar Ogle, in Washington state, she thought they were related, but didn't know why they did not acknowledge it. Numerous sources have said that the 3 Becwar Brothers, formed an orchestra and played at many dances including at the hotel in Wauzeka ran by Chapek's .... another Becwar connection. It is interesting to see how the pieces fit together. I am finding a lot of the same surnames here in Wisconsin, have followed to the Minnesota, Nebraska, Arizona, Texas, Colorado areas. Many of the Becwar's left Wisconsin in the late 1800's. Trying to track them down is hard and every piece of documentation can be a new lead in my search. What other information do you have. Most of the information here was on IGI, through Ancestry.com. I have a subscription to Ancestry.com and use it frequently. It takes many hours to take it all down.
