Thanks for responding Judy. I have no further info on the Reids so it looks like my THOM and REID "loose end" will remain. Thanks for the idea of coal mining though. I hadn't considered that they might have been involved in early mining activity -I might try that route.

When you say Christian Reid, do you know of the one who married an Archibald THOM in 1819?
