My great grandpa was Henry Hautamaki came from Finland in the late 1800's or early 1900's. The way I understand it the heads of all the Maki families got together and changed the name to just Maki, to make it easier. My great grandpa worked the Atlantic mine in Atlantic Mine, Michigan. His two brothers we're on their way over to work the Atlantic mine, when on a Sunday the mine exploded. The brothers we're half way to the states when they found out. One brother went back and they other continued to Michigan. My great grandpa and his wife from Calumet had several kids. Some of which are still alive. My grandpa Edwin Maki died 1 1/2 yeats ago at 92. My granda mother is still alive at 89, lives alone her name is Helma Maki. One of my Gradpa sisters is still alive and living in Atlantic Mine Michigan. Edwin and Helma had three kids Ronald, Cheryl and Susan. My father is Ronald and he lives in Nisula where my brother and his sister Susan lives.
