Did your William Canant live in Van Zandt County, TX? If so, then his first wife may have been Clara E. Brown of Edgewood TX. She died in 1903 at the age of 20. I would appreciate information concerning William E. Canant.

Thanks for your reply. Your family may be connected in some way to the Edgewood, TX, Van Zandt County family, as most of the early settlers there came from Ala. and Miss., but I am really searching for information on Clara Brown Canant. I guess, I'll just have to keep looking.

William Canant is my Gr-Gr-Gr-Grandfather. He was born Feb. 17, 1843 in Hinds County, MS- Married Amanda Missouri Yeilding- and is buried at Missionary Grove Bapt. Church in Cullman County. I have two photos of him and Amanda.His parents were Chesley and Elizabeth Canant

Thank you so much for your answer to my post. William Canant is the brother of my 2 Gr. Grandfather James Hardy Canant ( 4 Mar 1824 / 10 Oct 1899). The only information that I had was that William was born in Hinds Co. MS in 1843 and was married to Amanda Yielding. I had his father as Chesley Canant (abt 1790 / 1844), the son of Major Hardy Canant 1759 / 28 Mar 1825) and Elizabeth Cargill ( Bef 1770 / 20 Jun 1846. I had no name for the Mother of William.

One question I need to ask about is the middle name of William. I have some references to it being Hardy but that seems strange since I am almost certain that his brother (my 2gr grandfather) was James Hardy. I guess that stranger thing have happened though. If your information is different from mine or you can provide additional information about the family I would be very appreciative. I would, of course provide you with any thing that I may have that you think helpful. If you have anyway to send copies ot the pictures I would love to have them. The only picture that I have of any one in the family is a picture of my Great Grandmother Permelia Elizabeth Canant who married James Worth McCullough

I have a John Melton Canant and wife Mary Rackliff that lived in Texas at some point. They married in Cullman, Alabama in 1884, but both died in Texas. She died in LaMarque and he in Texas City.
