Lara,

I had mentioned in 2010 post that I thought your MacDonell’s came to Canada in 1786 from Knoydart. I now believe Ranald and son John came from Knoydart on the Pearl to NY and then to Charlottenburgh. In a search of my Petitions & Land Grants book John MacDonell June 20, 1807 of Lancaster, 6th Concession, Lot 33 is the eldest son of the late Ranald MacDonell of Charlottenburgh who served as a soldier for many years ...your petitioners father drew 200 acres of land being Lot 26 Lancaster 6 which has been sold and confirmed to Peter MacDonell....prays in his father’s name for benefit of his family which consists of a widow and six helpless children.” Received from the Rev. Alexander MacDonell. There is at least one Ranald and John MacDonell on the Pearl and on Mohawk Valley NY rent rolls.
You should obtain abstracts for both these lots.
