My sincere condolences to the CHILDS aiga/Family. I was two years too late in meeting your dear father; but I will continue to find or break those brick walls he was certainly trying to stumble.
Cigarette BEDDOES (Samoan spelling: Sikaleti)
b.Abt 1894 Samoa, Pacific Islands
m.04 FEB 1911 Levuka, Ovalau, Fiji, Pacific Islands
[Percy Ambler WOOD b.About 1872 Oakland, Alameda, California]
Since I do live near Alameda County area, I was able to track Percy Ambler WOOD (luckily there was only one with that name during those days in the northern California area) and luckily there are still Mr. Wood's descents living today closer to the Modesto area.
I was able to speak with Mr. Wood's descents and they all confirm that he never in his living days ever left the California area. Mr. Wood's parents both dwell from New York area and ventured to California before the children were born.
The descents were surprised and wished their ancestor(s) had made such a South Seas trip: What a fantastic story they'd have been delighted to tell the little ones at bedtime.
It took me six months to trace that quest, but well worth it and I am glad I am able to let John CHILD's daughter hear of it.
At least that part of the GREAG/BEDDOES/CHILDS journey is finally closed. (Unless I do find a Cigarette BEDDOES one day!)
My question: "Alii" is usually a male name. Was your dad sure of the spelling? Which island was Sala/Siila born on? Savai'i? Upolu? or one of the smaller ones?
Your father by chance didn't have any papers/documents from Samoa belonging to Sala/Siila?
Kristy, I'm glad you've taken up where your dad left off. At least your dad John Childs' "loves and thanks" you - ;-)!
