Many thanks. I bit the bullet and unlinked the trees. I then uploaded/linked the FTM to a newly named data base at Ancestry. My changes in FTM migrated fine. Anything I changed in my Ancestry tree recently is locked in the old tree. It is not stressing me too much - it is just going to be time consuming as I re-do systematically the hints I followed on the old Ancestry tree - fortunately only a few days worth since last successful sync. I was hoping for a global merge option in Ancestry - or some way of comparing new data base with old one. I often bounce between Ancestry and FTM tree, using the "duplicates" option in FTM to rationalise data. The lesson I have learned from this is to not continue to make changes in Ancestry once the sync fails - minimise the issues. I haven't checked yet to see how media travelled. I'll check out the link you sent me. Again, thank you. J
