Hi Dottie,

Sorry for the delay in responding. We think my 3xgreatgrandfather, John A(alfred) Porter was born in Maryland but he is certainly in Frederick Maryland by 1796. In all later censuses his children list his birthplace as Maryland.

However, although we knew that his father's name was Isaiah, we didn't know Isaiah was born in VA until we recently traced him to Ky in 1822 and were able to find his children in the later census and without fail, they list Isaiah's birth state as Virginia.

Isaiah Porter is married and living in MARYLAND by 1796 and remains in Maryland until sometime after 1812. In 1820 he is in Washington DC (Georgetown) but by 1822, Isaiah has moved to Ky.

My 3greatgrandfather John A. Porter lives and marries 2x in Maryland once in 1818 and again in 1851 and dies around 1855 in Frederick Maryland not Virigina.

We believe that Isaiah was born in VA around 1770-75 so he can't be Philip but he could be a brother or a whole different line of Porters from VA.

Hope this information is helpful. Thanks so much for your response. If you have any ideas or other information, please let me know. Thanks.
