Dave, thanks for getting me onto your web site. It is marvelous. I downloaded your book and have printed it out (I'm of the older generation who likes paper copies!). I'm going to study it out carefully. I also was happy to get more info on Charlotte Gailey. My ancestors were all writers and left journals and histories but I had nothing from the Clarks, so this was a great find.
I'm been troubled about the Clark/Probert connection for years and have wondered how researchers made the leap from Probert to Clark. In other words, is there any documentary proof that the name change is accurate? I seem to remember that my mother told me that the Clark newsletters in the 1950s or so had indicated some doubt about the link. Is this so? I would appreciate any clarification or information you might have.
My ancestor was Eliza Clark, Thomas Henry Clark and Charlotte's daughter. She married Joseph Stacy Murdock and lived in Heber the rest of her life, so I think there wasn't a lot of contact between her and her siblings and we don't have a lot of "tradition" or information.
Thanks for your help. Mary Hill
