It doesn't appear that I ever answered this message. Joseph Hottmann is the half-brother of my ancestor Christian Frederich Hottmann, born 24 Mar 1856 in Arena. Christian and his sister Elisabeth Hottmann are the children of Johann Gottlieb Hottmann and Barbara Stierli, his first wife. Barbara died in 1857. Johann Gottlieb then married Mary Kumigunda Kall(?)29 Dec 1860 and together they had ten more children: Johann Gottlieb, born 2 Dec 1860, a bachelor, died 8 Nov 1931 in Arena; Anna Maria, born 30 Jun 1862, married Heman Wilson 24 Nov 1887 in Arena, she died 9 May 1919 in Mazomanie; Clara, born 14 Aug 1864 who I figure died as an infant as there is no other information on her; Wilhelm Michael, born 4 Feb 1866, married Edyth G. Porter 11 Aug 1911, he died 17 Jun 1939 in Dodgeville, buried Arena; Henry, born 28 Mar 1868, married (1)Jennie Johnson, moved to South Dakota, married (2)Bertina Martinson Oberle Cummings on 30 Nov 1927, he died 28 Jun 1932; Joseph (you already have his information except that I have his birth date as 1 Apr 1871); Conrad Fredrich, also known as Fredrich, born 27 Jan 1874, a bachelor, died 3 Feb 1902, buried in Arena; Conrad Rudolph, born 20 Dec 1876, died 11 Jun 1960, moved to South Dakota, married Thea Steen; Frank Christian, born 3 Oct 1878 in Arena, married Augusta Prien 20 Sep 1905, he died 23 Feb 1910 in Middleton, WI; Nellie May, born 2 Jun 1881, married Joseph C. Schlough 23 Oct 1901, she died 15 Nov 1949 in St. Cloud, Stearns County, MN. So, yes Joseph Hottmann definitely ties into my line. Johann Gottlieb Hottmann, Barbara Stierli and their daughter Elisabeth emigrated from LaHavre, France and arrived at New York's Castle Garden receiving station on the ship Fairfield on 24 May 1855. Barbara and Elisabeth were born in Switzerland. Johann Gottlieb Hottmann and his brother, Christian C. Hottmann, who also settled in Arena, Wisconsin, were from Grunbach in Wuerttemberg, Germany. I have the family traced back several generations in Grunbach, where the families were all vintners. Lois, I hope this message reaches you. Please contact me at gdboock@pressenter.com.
