Tracy: Very nice to hear from you. I am a descendent of Pardon Tillinghast who departed England with his son Pardon from Alfriston in 1643. They arrived in America and owned much land in Providence Rhode Island. Descdents went to Connecticut and then Ohio, where I live.
What part of England are you from? My husband and I visit the UK (Edinburgh most often) at least twice a year. Have you done any genealogy of your family? I have much information that I would share with you. However, I am missing much information about their actual land holdings in East Sussex but for property in Ardingly and in Streat. If you wish to write I would be pleased to hear from you.
We also met another descendent of John while we were there on our "pilgramage". His name was Kenneth Tillinghast from Cuckfield.

Hello again Donna,
I have a copy of the pages from "Tillinghast Book" by Rose Tillinghast, this was kindly copied to me by Kelly Knight. I have always been interested in Ancestry stuff. My mother was born a Tillinghast and was born in London. Her mother died in 1996 and father in 1981. Since i have managed to get a PC with internet i have a geneology programme which i am slowly adding all the info from the Tillinghast book. I can give you Info on our line if you are interested, but have not much more than in the book as have only been researching for a couple of months.

I live in Hertfordshire, approx 20 miles from London - going North-West. So really i am a fair distance from Sussex. I shall be going to Streat again sometime and have a telephone number for the current rector. If you think there is anything he may be able to help you with, let me know and I will try and find out.

I am 13th Generation from John (1) b1560-d1624

You may e mail me directly if you wish on fpelectrical@aol.com.

One thing i will say is, isn't internet a wonderful thing, it brings people accross the world so much nearer. I saw your name in the guestbook on Monday and by Tuesday/Wednesday (Time difference) we can now chat over electronic mail. i wonder what our ancesters would have thought about this !!!

regards Tracy

Hi, I would be very greatful if you would look up in your database and find Edith Tillinghast Date of birth May 25, 1887 Deathdate:May 4, 1958

Edith Tillinghast married Byron C. JORDAN (Oct 22, 1884 - Sept 3 1964) and they had 2 children that I know of : Mildred JORDAN Nov 6, 1908 - May 1915
and Ethel JORDAN July 1912 - Sept 1993

Edith Tillinghast's mother and father "in-laws" were Millard F. JORDAN (Nov 1 1850 - March 13 1919) and Marcia (or Maria) PAINE (March 12, 1952 - May 28 1914)

One of Edith Tillinghast's sister "in-law"s was Emmaline JORDAN (July 14, 1880 - 1982), who married Edward L. KEACH (? 1891 - ? 1956)

Emmaline JORDAN KEACH and Edward L. KEACH had 2 children, Richard KEACH and Stanley KEACH (Sept 3, 1916 - Nov 3 1996)

Stanley JORDAN KEACH married Lola B. RAWSON (June 22, 1917 - Dec. 27 1990) and they had 3 children. 2 are still living (Susan and Jordan KEACH) and one, my mother, Marcia A. KEACH is dead Nov 29, 1945 - March 22 1988

Most of my relatives are dead and I would very much like to find and talk with relatives I am unaware of. My mom was the "black sheep" of the family and I have inherited a certain amount of her stigma.

I have Edith in my database. She is the only child of Aden Alonzo Tillinghast (born Oct 18, 1860) and Ida Matilda Sweet (March 24, 1864 - 1930). I do not have any record of marriage or children for either Mildred Jordan or Ethel Jordan. You have to go back to Edith's grandparents (Isaac Tillinghast and Sarah Love) to find another branch with living descendants. Aden had a sister Ida Martha Tillinghast and brother Josiah Bowen Tillinghast

Josiah and his wife Lydia Ann Wright had three children: Amy Roscilla Tillinghast (married Laurtiz G. Jensen), Raymond Wright Tillinghast (died young), and Ralph Wright Tillinghast.

Ralph married Jspehine Alice Bachman and they had three children: Phyllis Adele Tillinghast (died young), Paul Tillinghast (died young), and Roy Wever Tillinghast (1919 - 1984).

Roy Wever Tillinghast married Doris Virginia Coffman and they had two sons, Douglas Roy Tillinghast (b. 1948), and Gary Wayne Tillinghast (b. 1952).

Douglas married Lydia Regaldo and they had a daughter Amy in 1985.

These are the only living descendants that I have in my database for descendants of Isaac Tillinghast and Sarah Love.

Surnames: Miller, Tillinghast
HI,
My name is June L. Beckwith and my e-mail address is Beckpuff54@aol.com. Donita Harrington, wman1239@aol.com is my sister. My GGGtGrandfather was Newton Miller bn@ 1815 and was living in Sardinia, Erie Co. NY in 1840 with wife, Dorcas (Pratt) Miller. Living next to them is Tillinghast Miller. I believe they are father and son. I did a check and found that Tillinghast Miller was bn in 1769 MA according to American Genealogical-Biographical Index, Vol 118, pg 143. I do not have the book, so I do not know what it says. I figured that "Tillinhast" was a surname, and so I am reseaching the Tillinghast line.
I would appreciate any help you or anyone else can give me. I do not know what happened to Tillinghast Miller, or Newton and Dorcas. I do know that Dorcas parents and grandparents and other's settled in MI. Newton and Dorcas had two children that I know of. a daughter I do not know, and my GGt Grandfather, Wales Newton Miller who also came to Michigan.
This is all the info I have.
Warm Regards,
June L. Beckwith

June:

I checked my database and I do not have a Tillinghast Miller in it. The town of Sardinia caught my eye, however, since there is a large Tillinghast contingent there. Thomas Tillinghast (born July 27, 1785 in West Greenwich, RI, died in 1828 in Sardinia, NY) settled there and raised a large family. Thomas and his wife, Hannah Waite (1792 - 1847) had 10 children who moved to Sardinia with them. The Tillinghast family is from Rhode Island and when you find a family in the middle of nowhere, they are almost always related. The parents of Thomas where John Tillinghast (1756 - 1802) and Phebe Tillinghast (1758 - 1816). I wonder if Tillinghast Miller is a second or third cousin or something who went with Thomas Tillinghast to Sardinia. Good luck in your search.

Do you know whether this is the Caleb Greene who moves to New Bedford about the same time as his marriage? And did he have a son named David Russell Greene?

Am doing a project on a neighborhood that includes DR Greene's house and am having trouble finding anything on his genealogy.

Thanks for anything you can provide,
Kathryn Grover

I just thought I'd put my information in to update your Tillinghast history.
I can go as far back as my grandfather. His name was Kenneth A. Tillinghast (from Ilion, NY) married to Agnes Neil (from Herkimer, NY). They had 3 children : John K. Tillinghast (Otter Lake, NY), Patricia Sipowicz (Sulfur Springs, TX)and Ann Harris (Ilion, NY).
My Father is John K. Tillinghast who married Barbara J. LaRose ( from Malone, NY). They had 7 Children :
Deborah A. Putch (Famington, NY), Kenneth J. Tillinghast (Ilion, NY), Michael E. Tillinghast (Seguin, TX), Patrick C. Tillinghast (Logan IO), Mary I. Gonzalez (Ilion, NY), Barbara J. Gonzalez (Ilion, NY), and William Joseph Tillinghast (King, NC ).
I don't know too much about our family history, but my father has a book on the Tillinghast family and I am going to tell him about this site. He has always been interested in his ancestry.

Greetings...

My Mother's name was Elizabeth Tillinghast Greene (b. 1924, d. 2004). The Tillinghast name seems to have entered the Greene family with my Great Great Great Grandfather, Rev. Tillinghast Greene (b. 1783, d. 1869). His father, Ebenezer (b. 1753, d. 1823-4) married Phoebe Ann Allen (b. 1764, d. 1847), daughter of Charles Allen and Phoebe Tillinghast of Stonington, CT. Four of my ancestors had Tillinghast as their first or middle name.

I named my company Tillinghast Reid WorldWide to honor my mother and my paternal grandmother, Agnes Reid. Clients and friends frequently ask about these names.

Can you tell me anything more about this branch of the Tillinghast family and, perhaps, their connection to the Greenes of Rhode Island or some general historical perspective on the family?

Obviously, the most significant historical figure in our family is Major General Nathanael Greene, but our family was among the founding families of Colonial Rhode Island.

Any assistance, information or direction you can provide would be most appreciated.

Thank you for your consideration!

Cheers...

...Bill Kleinert
