Hello Cupstids!!!

I am Rita Gail Cupstid, born in Savannah, Georgia in 1947. My father was Thomas O’Neal Cupstid, son of Thomas Jefferson Cupstid. I was told by father before his death in at 86 (heart attack) in 2000 that his grandfather and and his three brothers came to South Carolina (probably) in the late 1860’s. He said they came from Scotland and settled in Kershaw County, South Carolina in the city of Blaney. The name of the city was changed to Elgin in the 1960’s because the ElginWatch Company’s factory was located there and for some reason they changed the name Elgin Reading from my father’s notes he said “His father was Thomas Jefferson Cupstid and and had uncles Jake, Jerome, Griff, Dallas and and one aunt name Annie who married someone with the last name of Laird. Most of his uncles lived around Swausea, SC or Pelica, SC or what used Blaney, SC, Kershaw County, SC. My father’s father(Thomas Jefferson Cupstid) married a woman from Bullock County, Georgia named Ella Hagan. They had children Ilamae, William T. Woodrow, Thomas O’Neal (my father) and twins (a boy and girl that died within two weeks of birth). Ella Hagan’s parents were Laws B. Hagan and Laura Hagan and lived 3-4 miles out of Oliver, Georgia where they operated a farm and had share-croppers living off the land. They (Laws & Laura) had children Pierce, Ben, Barney, Joan and 3 girls, Mary, Ella and Lilly. Laws & Laura lived to their 80’s. Dallas, my father’s uncle, had three boys (including twins) and 2 girls. He stated “These twins and my mom’s must have come from the SCOTLAND Cupstids. FYI ...I have two brothers, Thomas O’Neal Jr (68) and Craig Scott Cupstid (60). My niece Kendall from (Thomas, Jr) had twins, also. So, the Cupstid's must produce twins! I have searched the internet extensively trying to find the origin of the Cupstid’s. Scotland, Ireland, Ulster-Scot (a/k/a Scotch-Irish) and come to a dead end. Where are we from? Did the name change?? Were were we originally Cupstead? Help… I’m planning a trip in July ’06 to Scotland/Ireland and will research for all of us. I would appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks so much.

P.S. Send me any e-mail address of other Cupstids so I can continued this search!!!
