I do mean orphan records...but I'm talking about individual orphan records which aren't connected to any tree. I have multiple trees within my FTM file. Many times in my quest to find relationships with families of the same surnames, I find it too cumbersome to have the information in separate FTM trees and then merge them. With the quantity of individual tress I have, it would be a nightmare to try and keep them separate. So unfortunately, your suggestion...although a great one...would be catastrophic in my case.
Take a look at the features built into RootsMagic 4.0 which do just that...as well as their "delete branch" tool. It is "complete". Better merging tools, as well.
Unfortunately, I missed the tighter integration with ancestry.com and made my way back. Their software only directly imports up to FTM 16.
