I just ran a copy of the original (from microfilm) of John Wilson's list of tithables as recorded for Hampshire Co. in 1784. Sage and Jones (Early Records of Hampshire County Virgina pg. 98) indicated that a ROBERT Wirey was ennumerated with 5 white tithables and 1 dwelling (see earlier post). There are other Roberts in John Wilson's district but no ROBERT Wirey and I find no head of household in that district with 5 white tithables. (I did not have time to see if Robert Wirey appeared elsewhere in the county, though).
BUT, PETER Wiery is on John Wilson's list for 1784 with 1 tithable over age 21 yrs and 1 between 16-21 yrs, 2 horses and 2 cattle. He is in a group of names who are known to have been on the South Branch or North and South Mill Creeks very near what would become the dividing line of Pendleton and Hardy counties.
Unless someone already has the PP tax lists for Hardy and Pendleton for the late 1780's and early 1790's and is willing to do so, I will try to make time to work them for Peter and will post the results.
