I've read this whole thread for some insights. I'd waited for FTM for Mac for 5-6 years. I'm holding out for the software to work better once I get my member tree's duplicate entries all merged, and everything else worked out. One recommendation made might have helped me already--to turn off the websearch feature while working on merging data. I'm with whoever said he didn't understand not running other programs; I have to have the internet going in the background while I'm on these long waits waiting for the merges. When the little rainbow colored wheel spins around for about 15 minutes, & all else is held up, is that a crash? If so, mine crashes, but will come back around, ususally, after it's finished working. But sometimes it seems to hang up when it doesn't have much to merge. I can understand the program taking some time to merge if there is a big family merging, & all their descendants to link up. But sometimes just resolving 3 place names takes too long, in my opinion.

I'm experiencing a long wait time for the program to open initially. I'll click on the large tree (14,000 people), then click on the People tab. There are no visuals showing that anything is happening. Tonight it took 15 minutes to open. Does anyone know why this is happening? It can't be normal.

Ancestry.com tech help has been pretty accommodating, but they did recommend going to a mac troubleshooting site, where I had to fix permissions, etc., but I didn't feel comfortable re-installing my entire OS! I'm running Mac OS X--Leopard with 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.

My problem was trying to export a portion of my tree, so I could work on merging without so many names bogging it down. But when I'd try to export my father & all his ancestors & descendants, my mother's ancestors were included. The Tech help never could figure out why it was happening, but wouldn't admit to a software glitch. I keep thinking there's something wrong with the software. So far, they don't seem to buy that idea! They think that once I get all my duplicate entries merged, the problem will be resolved. But I had already resolved duplicates of my father & mother! So they think I should use the detach person feature to detach my mother while I export my dad's file. Then, they say her ancestors will not be included.
I'm sure it will work, but why do I have to go through this work-around? They said they'd heard of it, but not every customer has reported this glitch.

Anybody else experienced what I am?
