I have no idea how or if it was resolved. If he provided proof when he requested pension under correct name-- it seems possible it was accepted.
The DAR Index has 5 men with name Alexander Brown--one received a pension. Also there are 5 men with name Alexander Crawford and one received a pension. Do you have a wife's name or date of birth/place or date of death/place?
