MSSRW vs Pension Records

I'm finding some slight discrepancies between MSSRW and the Pension/Bounty-land Claims. I'm guessing either some data went lost or became illegible by the time MSSRW was compiled or that old soldiers and/or their widows' memories were fuzzy when they put in their claims--perhaps a little of both; Any insights out there?
