I am just reading this, and so I don't know if anyone will see this since so much time has passed. I was glad to read it because my family has always thought Elizabeth Hutchinson was Andrew Jackson's mother. Ann Moody is my forth great grandmother and she is the "old aunt Ann" mentioned in his biographies. Elizabeth Hutchinson was the daughter of Ann's sister, Jean Moody who was married to a Hutchinson , making Ann Andrew Jackson's great aunt. There was also a story of a gold treasure that connected Andrew Jackson to Ann Moody also; if anyone wants those details please respond to this post and it is also on the internet
in several places.

I think the NARA does not have state land, but not sure. Thanks in advance!

How Can I Find More Info on Loyalists in the Southern Campaign from New York who stayed in the Carolinas

I have searched for years for a trace of my ancestor, James Hayner (Haner, Haynor, etc.) in New York State, where I believe he was born about 1750. I find no trace of him until he was in Kentucky by 1806. I believe he lived for a number of years somewhere in the mid-Hudson River Valley areas of Columbia, Rennselaer, Albany, or Saratoga counties, and I know he had either close or distant relatives in that area through DNA testing that closely connects James Hayner's line to the larger NY Hayner family, but have been unable to find any mention of HIM in New York.............until, perhaps, now. There is a James Hayner listed as a private on an American Revolutionary War Loyalist muster roll of Captain Gray's company in the New York Volunteers from February into April of 1781.........and he was listed as being in a Southern Campaign during that year in connection to a commander named George Turnbull. I believe his outfit was sent to the Carolinas at one point...........which is also important because I have a little indication that James DID live in the Carolinas before moving to Washington County, Kentucky by about 1806..........the Kentucky years, those being from his mid-life on, are the years of which I have details about him. Unfortunately, the first half of his life, as you can see, has been all but lost to history, and I am trying to find him and re-connect him, and myself, to his New York State and German ancestors, but am struggling. Does anyone has a clue or suggestion?? Are there other Loyalist records where I might perhaps find names of his parents or siblings? His children born between 1787-1800 we believe were all born elsewhere (Carolinas? New York?), not in Kentucky, but have only one census record clue where one grandchild of James says his father was born in SC. I would appreciate help from anyone who has knowledge of the Loyalists. Did New York Volunteers who helped in the "Southern Campaign" frequently stay in the Carolinas? Might he have stayed and had children in South Carolina and then moved on to Kentucky? Were these folks somewhat persecuted after they lost the war and he was intentionally leaving very little clue after arriving in Kentucky as to his past? He first shows up in the 1810 Census in Washington Co., Kentucky (remember he is about 60 years old by then--and lived until 1849 - almost 100 years old) I have been unable to locate him in 1800 or 1790 censuses under various spellings. Any suggestions of where I might go from here, especially to get more info on the specific James Hayner listed as a NY Volunteer, would be very helpful and welcome!

James Dobbins of Rowan Co, NC

My ancestor appears to be the James Dobbins who is listed in the NC Treasurers and Comptrollers Papers Rev Army Accounts who recieved 560 pounds for shoeing horses, certificate number 117. I also have a copy of the Pay voucher. The voucher is dated 20 May, 1781. On the other side of the voucher written is "Presented on the 30th day of September 1791 on loan to the United States, and since rejected(?)" Part of the last word was cut off so not totally sure it was rejected.
My question, My ancestor James Dobbins evidently died around 1786. That is when his estate file folder is dated. In the May, 1794 session of the Iredell Co, NC county court his 4 children claim that the administrators did not list James Dobbins Specie Certificate or Certificates worth over 100 pounds for James service in the Revolution.
What does the date of 30 Sept, 1791 mean? James is dead by then.

Among the British forces present at the evacuation of Charleston was Col. Campbell's Regiment of NC Loyalist Militia led by Col. Samuel Campbell.
Can anyone tell me where in NC this regiment came from?

In "Southern Campaign of the Revolutionary War, Vol. I ", I found a Private Peter Bowman listed on a 1782 payroll for Campbell's regiment, and a Sarah Bowman, spouse of Peter on a 1782 list of NC refugees present at Charleston.
Does anyone know more about this Peter Bowman & Sarah Bowman. his wife?

Regards, Byron Bowman

Hi I'm searching for info on my grandfather Willis Howard Bethell. He lived I believe at some point in Palmmetto Point Eleuthera, later he moved his family to New Providence.
He was married to Malvinia Bethell nee (Fox)from Inagua.
They had 4 children Roy, Gerald, Howard & Mildred.
There just seem to be no info on my grandfather's early life
anywhere in this country. Which leads me to believe, as some say he was from either England, Scotland, or Ireland. It is believed his family moved to the Bahamas when he was a child.(Story not confirmed).
I checked records which confirms he worked as a govenment official as an Auditor in Public Accounts. He was also the Chief Clerk in the Auditor's Department
My grandmother Malvinia was a teacher.
Please anyone with any info please inbox me. laislanina@hotmail.com

clementine had lots of kids. Commodore Goad and others are buried in a third cemetery(bigger)in Boonville. if not mistaken, William owned land up by where the coal mining is now. That is near where Clementine is buried. There used to be a town Eby,IN(not now). I have a copy of William's will. I believe 1st wife was from Tennessee, (nee: Stalcup), though I'm not sure. I don't know where she is now. I believe some of his kids were born in Ohio and maybe she died there. There are Osborns born in So. Ohio. There are also Osborns living in Orange Co., IN,(So.IN-near Paoli,IN) I haven't connected them. James Osborn, s/o William and siblings lived in Greenup Co., KY (near W.Va-Va line)and there is a very large family history there. I believe they may have traveled the Ohio river as families are along that tract.
William, of North Carolina, 1763! He had 19 children, the last 2 with his 2nd wife. His son, James had 21 kids and lived in Greenup co., Ky. some of Wm's other children also lived in that county. I believed Ohio was part of his journey to Warrick/Spencer Co., IN. His son Manoah is my descendant line. William owned land in Warrick/Spencer Co.IN. His daughter, Clementine, is buried just north of Boonville, IN in a remote area, and married a Goad. William's buried by a church (his 2nd burial place) and his grave is decorated during military events. His daughter, Asenath, married a Condict, a preacher, I think. I don't have my material in front of me. She is buried in the same cemetery. I believe his dad is Caleb (No.Car.) Some of William's descendants lived in Selvin, IN, Posey Co., IN, Evansville,IN--Vanderburgh/Warrick/Spencer Co.s Many of his children had very large families. Names: Goad, Barclay, Condict, McCarty, Boardman, I have so many names. There is much more. I live in Evansville, Vanderburgh Co., IN --Kim

He found three brothers came from England and came into NC. One brother went to Missouri and one brother went to Texas and the other brother settled in the MS and AL areas. Claude was a cousin to my dad, John M. Pittman and I have a listing of my grandaddy's family that goes back may years ago to where a Pittman married an Indian woman whose name I also have.
One possibility is if Thomas' widow applied to the County for subsistence support for herself and children since Thomas might have been killed while officially on active militia duty. This could appear in the County Court records and would have to be searched in person (the State Archives might have the original court records or microfilm). There could also be a report to the County Court concerning the incident.
Thanks for the reply. I knew that Thomas Jr. had a sister because of the will of his grandfather, in which he names Thomas (Jr) and Susanna as the children of his deceased son Thomas Freeland (Sr)

"I do leave give and bequeath to Thomas Freeland son of my son Thomas Freeland Deceased one cow and I do give and bequeath to Susanna Freeland, daughter of my son Thomas Freeland deceased one cow as I had formerly given my son Thomas Decd. a plantation"

I am also using the marriage of Susanna and John West as one of the proofs that Susanna and Thomas (Jr) in Sumner Co. TN are the same Freelands from the will in NC because in John West's Revolutionary War pension application (John West also lived in NC before TN) one of his character witnesses is Thomas Freeland.

My problem is that I have nothing to link Thomas (Sr) to Revolutionary War service outside of the mention in the book. I also have record of a Thomas Freeland that served in Collier's Regiment of the North Carolina regt., discharged in 1780, but once again no proof that this might be the same Thomas.

I am trying to find information on Thomas Freeland who was born in 1753 in Orange County and married Mary Phillips in 1778. Thomas died in February of 1781 and had at least one son, Thomas Phillips Freeland, who moved to Sumner County, TN.

The reason that I am interested in Thomas is because of this excerpt from a book

" ...when Lord Cornwallis took that 'whig capital,' capturing the Governor and routing the unfortunate forty-two whigs who were at the public spring getting ready to fight. There Thomas Freeland fell, shot through the head by a tory. The grandfather of Mr. Freeland, coming from Haw river, dug a hole and buried him. He does not say which grandfather, Mr. Strain or the old Elder John Freeland. His grave is on the hill near Kirkland's old tan yard."

Craig, D. I. A Historical Sketch of New Hope Church, 1891.

I want to file SAR paperwork for Thomas and need to show that he was indeed killed like this excerpt says and also need to prove that he was the father of Thomas P., that moved to Tennessee.

Any help would be appreciated.

Please contact me at dannastevens@gmail.com & I'll send my phone # from there, as I do have a little more possible info on John. Also, give me an idea of where we're related. My g.grandmother was Mary Alice Jarvis, daughter of Edmond Jarvis & Mandy Mercer. Edmond was the son of Edward & his 2nd wife, Mary Forrester. Danna Arnett Stevens
