To complete a DAR application documentation of descendants of Phillip Vincent Vass (died after 1834), of Pike Run, Spotsylvania County, Va. is needed.

Phillip Vass married Susannah Mead/Meade.

A list of his children is all that is needed. I have checked countless books in this search, but so far no positive proof has been found. We are hoping to find proof to link Henry Vass (1799-1857) as son of Phillip, then the chain of connection is complete.

So far the will of Phillip Vass has not been found.

Any and all suggestions welcome!

Thank you,
Sandy

Anes Snider KY land warrant 1819 (or Snyder, Schneider)

I need some fresh thoughts on a research problem. Agnes Snider was granted a land warrant in Shelby County Kentucky. Weren't land warrants granted for Revolutionary War Service? I am trying to find out who her husband was-if there was one. Is there a way to track her husband through this land warrant even though it was issued to her? Like I said-I need new thoughts and some good research ideas on this person. She and her daughter Julia came from Virginia to Kentucky then on to Missouri by 1850. They married into the Minzes and Blankenship families while in Illinois. They seem to be of the alien race because I can't find any other info. Thank you!!

CHAPTER VI Kentucky LAND WARRANTS (1816-1873)
THE COUNTIES OF Kentucky
page 730
More Info: Grantee: Snider, Agnes
Acres: 50
Book: I
Page: 240
Date Survey: 7- 1-1819
County: Wayne
Watercourse: Bover Cr (Actually Beaver Creek)
Ancestry.com.

I am searching for my ancestor, Jesse Hamilton, who served in the American Revolution as a solider from Virginia, and then he received a land grant around Natchez, Mississippi area as a reward for serving in the American Revolution. The name of his wife was Margaret, but maiden name is at this time unknown. I know that he had several children, The name of the plantation around Natchez was Selset Plantation, but it no longer exits. I think that the Hamilton family that Jesse Hamilton was from is the Hamilton family from Abingdon, Virginia, any information would be greatly appreciated, thank you very much
kitty

I understand some were promised bounty land to enlist, but they were poorly paid and treated. It seems every able bodied man in this area of Virginia served in the war in some capacity. I appreciate the efforts of my ancestors in gaining our freedom from England.

I would like to know where to find records of these men who endured so much for us.

Musco Wright of the 10th VA. Regiment

My ancestor, Musco Wright, was in the 10th VA. Regiment, 5th division, 2nd. VA. Brigade, under Capt. Richard Stevens. He was on duty in Feb. and Mar. of 1778 at Valley Forge. Other Wright's in his unit were: John, Moses, Parsons, Paul, Richard, Robert, Thomas, and William Wright. Has anyone researched these Wright's above who were in the 10th VA. Regiment? I am hoping to possibly link them up to my ancestor, Musco Wright, who was born probably in VA. in ca. 1750/51, parents unknown. He married Mary, maiden name unknown, possibly in VA. between ca. 1768 and ca. 1778. They left VA. after Jan. of 1778. Their children were named: Musco, Caleb, Martin, Thomas, Ann, and possibly Lewis and William, just in case he may have named a few of them after his parents or brothers. It is believed that Musco Wright was a product of the marriage between 2 of the old VA. families of Wright and Muscoe, of St. Anne's Parish, Essex County, VA. But it is also said that the soldiers of the 10th VA. Regiment came mostly from the western part of the state of VA. I'm hoping that someone has researched the Wright's in this unit and perhaps there could be a connection between my Musco Wright and the other Wright's in his unit. Any help would be very much appreciated.
Jean Mayo

Casper LARRICK Rev. War Memorial

I've already posted this message to the AMER-REV mailing list but thought it would be good to post here too.

Am wondering if anyone knows where I can locate a photo of the memorial for Casper LARRICK.

Casper LARRICK was in the Revolutionary Army from 1773 to 1776 and on September 25, 1960 the Fort Loudin Chapter, NSDAR dedicated a memorial to Casper by placing a stone in the Mt. Olive Cemetery. This is near Hayfield, Frederick County, Virginia. The inscription reads:

Casper Larrick
Born In France
Died Virginia, 1801
A Frontier Settler
Revolutionary War
Soldier
Father of
Henry Larrick "

Because the Fort Loudin, VA, DAR chapter handled the original memorial, I thought it would be best to approach them with my questions.

I emailed the Fort Loudin DAR chapter regent asking if she could provide me with any additional details regarding this. However, I have never received a response at all, so I'm not certain if the email address listed for her is still active (I am also a DAR member, in Colorado).

Does anyone on this list have access to this memorial or knows where I can locate a picture of it for our family?

Thanks for any help!

Searching for info on William Johnson, b. Oct 16, 1750, served in Rev. War in 4th VA Regiment as a Corporal. He enlisted Feb 13, 1776 and served for two years. Married Lucy Rosannah Reese, and moved to Georgia in 1793. Died there May 6, 1830. I am trying to locate HIS parents. He was from Isle of Wight, or Southampton Co, VA. I have not found any info on his parents at all, but do know he had a brother named Willis Johnson. Found an index in the DAR books, but that particular book has yet to be found.

Russell,
There is a new book on the women of the revolutionary war era. that is very informative and also a biorgraphy about Martha Washington that gives new insight on the woman and her live before, during and after the war.
These two books go hand in hand in giving us a closer look at the war and the impact it had on women from all classes and their relationships with their spouses. I highly recommend reading both books one after the other. The books do not have the same authors.
Martha Washington destroyed all of her letters from George before her deatth so we have only a few letters that others kept.
Nancy

I am trying to trace him, his origins, family, etc. He was married to Elizabeth Williams around 1783. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I am searching for more information on the comander and unit for which my revolutionary war ancestor, Charles Love served. My ancestor received a land warrant which simply states he was in Whiting's company in the 2nd regiment of infantry. I have done some reading and record checking and can not figure out what state this unit may have been from (VA, NC, MD or other). I thought I would be able to resolve this problem faster by researching the company comanders last name, but found there were several Lt. etc, with the same last name of Whiting. I would appreciate any info on this unit and comander. sorry --my message showed up under the wrong author as bess. do not reply to bess concerning this subject.

I may have 2 ancestors that were in the 11th Virginia Infantry 1775-1783 period? Abel and James Romine I have been told were in this unit? If this is my Abel and James they "may" have come from Montgomery County Virginia, later to go to Lincoln County North Carolina. Is there rosters of the 11th Virginia around for a look up? I have tried for over 10 years to get something from National Archives? This just like my Civil War records suddenly are not there, even after having had part of them before?? The brothers may have been with Daniel Morgan's original force?

VIRGINIA HISTORICAL INDEX by Swem

The Library of Virginia is too far for a visit and be home in time to cook dinner--but in two reading rooms they have this index:
VIRGINIA HISTORICAL INDEX by Swem -a compiled list of Colonial people from many sources.

The family I seek is: Samuel, David, Henry,Major, KITE, KEYTE, KIGHT, KIT,HIT,HYTE,CATE,CAIT, KITES, CATES, KIGHTS, and any multiple spelling that seems close. This family was large in Colonial Virginia and into NC and then into Georgia by 1830.

Does anyone on this list have this index that they would do a quick look up for me? Our family is aware that the Kite line was in the Rev War or war of 1812 and possibly the French Indian War....however, only one of the brothers seems to have gotten his name on a list of military service. Any ideas gratefully appreciated.
We would appreciate a Virginia Colonial Militia lookup for James Waller. We have little information on him, not even his age. However, we think his son Benjamin was born about 1765, in Franklin County, Virginia.

Just received some new James Waller information from his will; which doesn't mention son Nelson, that we found listed with James and son Benjamin on the1775 tithe list of Lunenburg County, Virginia.

James Waller - d. 9-23-1788, Lunenburg County, Virginia
Mentions: Wife: Sarah Waller, don't know if that was his only wife.......

Son: Robert, Benjamin, Robert, Sterling, James and Rice
Daughters: Creasy Matthews Waller, Mary Waller, Susanna Gee, Patty Gee

Also, found a James Waller listed in the Virginia Colonial Militia. That is all the information I could get free from Ancestry.com, as I am not a member.

Thank you, we really appreciate your help in looking up this military record.

Mary Boudreau

I am looking for Georg(e) and Rosina Diel/Diehl. George was born March 5, 1750 in Bornheim, Germany. It is believed that the couple moved to Rockbridge County, Virginia sometime after their marriage of May 25, 1773 in St. Michael's, Philadelphia. George may have been a soldier in the American Rvolutionary War, possibly serving in the Virginia Militia (but this is speculation on my part).

For full particulars:
http://community-2.webtv.net/robo2636/GeorgeHartmannDiel/

DEAVER & HAMBY AmRev

I'm searching for the parents of Wm. John DEAVER b. ca 1778 MD d. ca 1809 TN/NC?
and his brother Thomas DEAVER b. ca 1780 MD d. aft 1815 Cades Cove., TN.

Based on a Wm. HAMBY will, I believe that William John DEAVER m. HAMBY'S daughter, but I do not have her given name.
I have found that this William HAMBY an AmRev veteran -- VALine, was b. Jan. 04, 1743/44 Baltimore, MD & d. ca 1840 Cades Cove, TN. He did leave goods to the children of both Wm. John & Thomas DEAVER & he named the children.

I think that William John DEAVER & the dau. of Wm. HAMBY m. ca 1794 and had the following children:
Wm. H. DEAVER 6/30/1795 (Is the “H” for HAMBY?)
Polly DEAVER
Samuel DEAVER
John DEAVER 3/10/1798
Joseph DEAVER
Thomas Shepherd DEAVER 2/23/1803
Mary "Nancy" DEAVER
Reuben DEAVER 1808

Then William John DEAVER d. ca 1809 &
brother Thomas m. the widow ca 1810; children:
Reuben Keith DEAVER
Harvey B. DEAVER
Susannah DEAVER.

Theoretically their father could have been Reuben DEAVER the s/o William R. DEAVER b. ca 1737 MD (served in AmRev, VA Line) & Susannah BURCHFIELD. They lived in Buncombe/Haywood Co., NC. I believe this Reuben would have been b. ca 1756, prob. in MD, but I know nothing else about him. Do you know something about him & do you think this could be right?
Joan Deaver
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/d/e/a/Joan-Deaver...
I am looking for information on documented soldiers who would have served in the Northern Division that was under Lord Dunmore's command. This would include soldiers from the following Virginia (in 1774) counties: Frederick ; Dunmore (Shenandoah) ; Hampshire ; Berkeley. I am trying to locate journals or daybooks that would have been written by any soldiers from the time they left up to the proceedings at Camp Charlotte. I am also looking for descendants who have items that would have been passed down through the family that were used or collected during this time. All of this information is for a presentation I am preparing on Dunmore's War and will ultimately be published in a comprehensive format. I look forward to hearing from folks. Sincerely, John C.
John Smith, Revolutionary soldier

I am seeking information on Revolutionary War veteran John Smith. What I known about him is he buried in Massac County, Illinois. He served in North Carolina and in Virginia in the Revolutionary War. At the end of the Revolution War he immigrated to Illinois with his wife and children. He had two sons named Valentine and Merrick. He settled in the area of what is now the town of New Columbia, Massac, IIlinois. John Smith is buried in what is known as the old Wilson graveyard one and a half miles east of the present little town of New Columbia. A lone cedar is all that marks the spot. A former postmaster U. E. Smith of Metropoolis, Illinois is a great-great grandson of John Smith. I have no further information on John Smith. Can anyone from the NSDAR help me with further information or if anyone has further information I would greatly appreciate it. I am a descendant of John Smith. Thank you!
