Hi Karen and thanks so much for the great info.
I did not know what a Jaeger unit was so I tried looking it up. My present understanding is that "Jaeger means Hunter in German and that members of a Jaeger unit were basically light infantry, trained for patrolling and reconnaissance, as well as attacking, defending and securing positions". Hopefully this is an accurate description.
It would be interesting to try to look up and determine his regiment unit. We believe he lived near Ternopil in Galicia so the recruiting station would have been somewhere in that area. I understand that there were many recruiting stations in Galicia.
