Hello, I'm trying to find a record of my ancestor Owen Tully (we believe he added "John" as first name at some point). Born in Ireland (1856), he went to England (Lancashire?)abt. 1875. We think he served in S. Africa in the Boar conflict. There is a census listing of a John Owen Tully in Lancashire (1881)and getting married in 1889. There is a good chance that he is my ancestor. Assuming he is, that means he would have been in the military between abt 1876-1880, or 1881-1888. I have tried to find records about him but not being at all familiar with British records/terminology, I'm not doing very well with this. Could anyone help me? Thank you.
