I believe my great grandfather Thomas Price may have served in the Boer War.

In September 1914 he embarked for Egypt as PVT 2519 Thomas Price of the 1/8th Lancashire Fusiliers.

Sadly he dies on 8/4/15 and his service records do not remain from WW1.

I believe the fact he was one of the first sent to fight and his low service number indicates previous military experience.

I can not find him on the 1901 Census although he is there in 1881 and 1911.

His brother John Price b 1883 was in service based in Portland Dorset in 1901.

Is it likely that Thomas was away on active service around 1901 ????

Any advice greatly appreciated
