My Great(4) grandfather was born in and around 1765 in Claiborne, Mississippi. At that time it was still under Spanish rule. His father named him George Washington Jones. I'm thinking that was a rather unusual name combination even back then. So, that led me to think that maybe he was named for someone his father admired, maybe even a commander or even a buddy or something like that.
I don't have GW Jone's father's name or where he is from. GW's wife was named Eve and she was born in Virginia. Maybe there are family ties to Colonial Virginia
