NY State Archive index - F&I veterans

The NY State Archives web-site has an index of British Soldiers Applying for Land Grants in the Seven Years War. Many of the soldiers listed are said to belong to the 80th Regiment of Foot (Staffordshire Volunteers). The problem is this regiment didn't exist at that time and its predecessor (38th Regiment, 1st Staffordshire) never served in America until the Revolution. Does anybody have any idea what this database is all about? Thanks

The Beekman patent was in or around the present day town of Esophus New York - I did a lot of reading on this area and it's history. The patent may be on the other side of the Hudson River from Esophus. That patent was when this area was under the manor type system. I hope this leed helps your research

Hi-
Wondering where I would find information on where this specific regiment 'fought'.
New York Provincial Troops - Captain Bull's Militia
My ancestor, Gotlieb Niver (listed as Goodlife Niever on the muster rolls) enlisted 4/4/1758. Would this mean that he fought at Ticonderoga? Were all troops from this region (possibly Montgomery, Orange Co NY) called up? Would love any leads - thanks- Diane

Jonathan Sweet b. 7/23/1719

Jonathan served in the French and Indian War. He served in Capt. Jenckes" Co. in 1758 and fought at Forts Du Quesne (site of Pittsburg, PA) and Ticonderoga (NY on Lake Champlain). He served in Col. Harris' Regt. in 1760 to advance through Oswego (NY), across Ontario, down the St. Lawrence River to conquer Montreal. A member of Capt. Kimball's Co. in 1761, he performed garrison duty at Fort Stanwix, then returned to Albany and on to Providence. As a Sergeant in Capt. Fry's Co. in 1762, he was sent to Havana, Cuba in May, 1762. Havana was captured on Aug. 13, 1762. Almost half of the troops sent to Havana were lost to battle and sickness. The survivors returned home in Nov., 1762. The War ended shortly thereafter. On Feb. 8, 1763, the King's Proclamation of Peace was announced in Rhode Island. John Sweet, Jonathan's son, indicated on his application for a Revolutionary War pension, that his father died in the French and Indian War. Jonathan probably died in Cuba in 1762.,

Trying to locate rosters of those who served from Dutchess County, New York, Beekman Patent. I have been told that a Jeremiah (George or Jurgen) Abel and his brother David Abel served in the French and Indian War from Beekman Patent. Is there a source to write to in New York state that has records of those that served? Likewise, if pensions were granted, who funded the pensions and is their a source of those who were granted pensions? Thanks, John Bowen
