"Bicentennial Addresses Delivered at the Two Hundredth Anniversary of Leacock Presbyterian Church, Paradise, Penna." Edited by Kaufman, 1940
pg. 34
Stewart Herbert, Jr., eldest son of the "immigrant", Stewart Herbert Sr., had a printing press in Lancaster in 1774 and 1775. He served in a Pennsylvania Regiment of the Continental line. He ws Ensign in the 12th Pennsylvania Continental line, October 16, 1776, was made 1st Lieutenant, June 9, 1778, and waa in various regiments of the Continental line and mentioned as Lieutenant among gereral officers of the Pennsylvania line, sent August 13, 1784 to protect the Northwestern frontier.
There is also something in the Pa. archives which states that Stewart Herbert Sr. was the immigrant. Course this is not to say that the information is accurate and that he wasn't related to other Herberts in America.
