Is there any hope in finding French desertion records for a person born between 1826-1829? Desertion would have been in mid to late 1840s after which he came to Kentucky. I have been unable to find the departement of birth, which I believe is how they are kept, but I believe it is Lot, Lot et Garonne or nearby. Familiy history states "South or Southwest France", "area with wild horses." Some family by this last name (Souladie, first name Joseph) have been found in Gourdon, Lot. Records in Gourdon have been checked, with no one matching the name or date of birth. During WWII, somewhere in France, a now deceased family member saw the record of desertion on file, about 100 years after it was posted. I cannot figure out how to find the place of birth for this person. Any help would be most appreciated.
