My great grandfather, Ferdinand Bertrand, was a nephew of some degree to Henri-Gratien Bertrand. There are still many descendants of Ferdinand Bertrand in Chorges, France. My grandmother had a ribbon with a medallion attached to it that said in french, "To General Bertrand for his service to Napoleon Bonaparte." She returned it to a museum in France in the 60"s. Each time I go to Paris, I go to Les Invalides and bid him hello!
It's funny because my grandmother loved to read the Conti of Monto Cristo. She knew the story by heart. I have recently read, that Dumas refers to General Bertrand in his novel. Good luck with your search.
