German soldiers during WWII

Does anyone know if I can get german military records. My grandfather was a german soldier during WWII, he was born in Ridjica (former Yugoslavia) in 1914, at the end of the war he was captured by the Russians, and was held somewhere in ussr until 1951. I did not know him (I met him once) because my grandmother had remarried. But I would like to know where he was held, and about his service in the german military. If anyone knows where I can get this info. I would appreciate it.
