I found information about a german navy man Paul Loll, rank Bootsmann (boatman) born October 30, 1902 in Nippoglense, district of city of Stolp in Pommern (Pomerania)which died/missing in the Baltic Sea (german: Ostsee) on the steamership "Wilhelm Gustloff" which was hit by a russian torpedo on January 30,1945, whith approx. 10.000 refugies on board.
Could this be your ancestor?
Information about the Wilhelm Gustloff see here: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilhelm_Gustloff_%28Schiff%29

also available in english.
