He was with HQ HQ Co of the 9th Infantry. The command section lost many men during the battle at or near Kujang the evening of the intitial attack by the Chinese. The 9th and sister units were preparing to step off on an attack to push the North Koreans to the Yalu when the overwhelming Chinese intervention commenced.
