Would someone need Irish ancestry to be in the Irish Guards Band?

Classification: Query
Surnames: Taylor
My Great-great grandfather, Arthur Taylor (born c.1872 Rochester, Kent) was an early member of the Irish Guards Band, in fact he was probably one of the founder members in 1900.

When I first started researching the family a lot of relatives said he was Irish but I've found no evidence anywhere to back that up. Obviously it was simply assumed he must have been because he was in the band of the Irish Guards.

Would a man have needed any connection with Ireland or another Irish regiment to become a member? I must admit my knowledge of this kind of thing is very poor.
